Peer Coaching: wherein teachers help one another reflect on and adjust their practice and professional collaboration during which time is set aside for professionals to get together with a purpose – specifically analyzing student work and setting student goals.
2007-2008 IST members were trained by the University of California Santa Cruz New Teacher Center in:
Introduction to Instructional Mentoring (2 days)
Using Student Work to Guide and Differentiate Instruction (2 days)
Each IST member was trained and given two spiral-bound Teacher Induction Modules:
An Introduction to Instructional Mentoring (with CD & carbonless forms: "Formative Assessment Tool - Collaborative Assessment Log" , aligned to professional teaching standards).
Analysis of Student Work (with CD & carbonless forms: "Formative Assessment Tool - Analysis of Student Work" (two pages) and "Lesson Plan A", "Lesson Plan B", "Parent Communication.")
These two modules are meant to be a primary tool to guide collaboration and effect student progress. Both these resources should be on your bookshelf. If you are missing your copy, contact your fellow building IST members or Haifa in the Office of Instructional Services.
If you are new to your IST position, you will need some training to use these resources correctly. Contact your building IST or Haifa to arrange for training.
